FOXBORO, Mass. (May 2nd MLS News Release) The New England Revolution
announced today that ticket sales for the Sunday, May 19th, United States
Men's National Team/New England Revolution doubleheader at CMGI Field have
climbed past the 28,000 mark.
The USA will host Holland at 2:00 PM as the
team puts its 7-0-3 unbeaten record in New England on the line in the
national team's farewell match in American territory prior to the 2002
World Cup. The Revs will host Eastern Conference rival Chicago Fire at
4:30 PM in the team's second event at its new home, CMGI Field.
"This game is going to mark the
beginning of a new era of international soccer at CMGI Field," New
England Revolution General Manager Todd Smith said. "The great
response from our fans only encourages our organization to continue its
tradition of bringing the best international soccer events to the New
England area."
The U.S. Men's National Team clinched its
ticket for the 2002 Japan/Korea World Cup by defeating Jamaica 2-1 in the
last soccer event played at Foxboro Stadium on October 7th, 2001, in front
of 40,483 fans, closing a decade of undefeated soccer at the historic
venue. The team averaged 35,378 fans per game in its 10-match Foxboro
Stadium history, which began with a 1-1 tie with Ireland on June 1, 1991.
